NUTS AND BOLTS

Thinking has not solved our problems.
The clever ones, the philosophers, the scholars, the political leaders, have not really solved any of our human problems, which are the relationship between you and another, between you and myself.
So far we have used the mind, the intellect, to help us investigate the problem and thereby are hoping to find a solution.
  • Can thought ever dissolve our problems?

  1. Is not thought, unless it is in the laboratory or on the drawing-board; always
  • self-protecting, self-perpetuating, conditioned?
  • Is not its activity self-centred?
  • And can such thought
  • ever resolve any of the problems which thought itself has created? Can the mind, which has created the problems, resolve those things that it has itself brought forth? -

Questioner:
Can there be thinking without memory?
Krishnamurti:
In other words, is there thought without the word?
You know, it is very interesting, if you go into it.
Is the speaker using thought? Thought, as the word, is necessary for communication, is it not?
The speaker has to use words, English words, to communicate with you who understand English. And the words come out of memory, obviously.

  • But what is the source, what is behind the word?
Let me put it differently.
There is a drum; it gives out a tone. When the skin is tightly stretched at the right tension, you strike it, and it gives out the right tone, which you may recognize.
  • The drum, which is empty, in right tension, is as your own mind can be.
When there is right attention and you ask the right question, then it gives the right answer. The answer may be in terms of the word, the recognizable, but
  • that which comes out of that emptiness is, surely, creation.
  • The thing that is created out of knowledge is mechanical, but the thing which comes out of emptiness, out of the unknown, that is the state of creation. -

LOVE:
  1. TRUE LOVE IS LIKE GHOSTS, WHICH EVERYBODY TALKS ABOUT AND FEW HAVE SEEN.
  2. ONCE IN A WHILE, RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF AN ORDINARY LIFE, LOVE GIVES US A FAIRY TALE.
  3. FAITH MAKES ALL THINGS POSSIBLE, LOVE MAKES THEM EASY.
  4. OUT OF ALL YOUR LIES, (I LOVE YOU) WAS MY FAVOURITE.
  5. ANYONE CAN CAPTURE YOU EYE, BUT IT TAKES SOMEONE SPECIAL TO CAPTURE YOUR HEART.
  6. YOU HAVE TO LOVE YOURSELF BEFORE OTHER CAN LOVE YOU. LOVE NOT EGO BUT YOURSELF.

  • The distance between a beggar & his desire & d distance between Alexander d Great & his desire is d same.
  • every expectation is the begining of frustration.
  • In fact, you will be more meaningless in a palace, bcoz while you are in a hut you can still HOPE, but the man in palace, has no hope, he feels utterly HOPELESS.
  • And remember that no desire simply ends; before it ends, it gives birth to other desires.
  • Either you will be consumed by your desires or u have to consume your desires. And consuming means: WITNESS, WATCH. BE AWARE.

A man who pursues virtue consciously is unvirtuous

A man who pursues virtue consciously is unvirtuous:

9 Nov. 2012
I am only conscious of this activity of the 'me' when I am opposing, when consciousness is thwarted, when the 'me' is desirous of achieving a result.
The 'me' is active, or I am conscious of that centre, when pleasure comes to an end and I want to have more of that pleasure;
then there is resistance, and there is a purposive shaping of the mind to a particular end which will give me a delight, a satisfaction.
I am aware of myself and my activities when I am pursuing virtue consciously. That is all we know. A man who pursues virtue consciously is unvirtuous.
Humility cannot be pursued, and that is the beauty of humility.

YOUNG PEOPLE- WHAT IS HAPPENING TO THEM?

8 Nov. 2012

Young workers are 40% more likely to call in sick due to stress than older employees, according to anew UK survey.
Almost seven in ten workers aged between 18 and 24 have called in sick due to stress in the last year, according to a report into workplace stress by a UK based provider of financial products and services.
The report found that the proportion of people who have alled in sick over the last year due to stress gradually increased as people get younger.
Thus for example,

  • in case of age group 18 to 24 years, 67% called in sick
  • and in case of age group 25 to 34 years, this figure fell to 54% and
  • to 47% among age group of 35 to 44 years old.

But in case of over the age of 55, this figure falls to half, the Telegraph reported.
Experts said that

  • young workers may feel more stressed than the older generation because they have more expectation on their shoulders.
  • young people may also be more aware of the tell-tale signs of stress than older people, they believe.
  • biggest stresses were listed as money, work and relationship.
What is happening to younger generation inspite of all the plethora of Management/Development/Personality enhancement/make over gurus and the use of modern technology to spread and impress their mantras and umpteen ways to success?

THE 'CONSCIOUS' AND THE 'UNCONSCIUS' MIND

8 NOV. 2012

COGNITIVE PSYCHOLOGISTS TELL US THAT THE HUMAN MIND WORKS THROUGH TWO DISTINCT BUT INTERACTING SYSTEMS: THE 'CONSCIOUS' WHICH IS SUBJECT TO VOLUNTARY CONTROL, AND THE 'SUBCONSCIOUS OF UNCONSCIOUS' WHICH IS AUTONOMOUS AND AUTOMATIC. THE LATTER MAKES US THINK OF THE ELEPHANT WHEN ALL THAT WE ARE TELLING OUR MIND IS 'DO NOT THINK OF THE ELEPHANT'.
UNLESS ONE INTENDS TO RENOUNCE THE PHYSICAL WORLD, IT IS NAIVE TO THINK THAT ONE CAN ESCAPE THE COMPLEXITIES OF MODERN SOCIETY AND THE INTENSIFYING PRESSURES THEY GENERATE ON THE HUMAN MIND AND SPIRIT.

FATHER OF ATOM BOMB J. Robert Oppenheimer QUOTES GITA

Along withEnrico Fermi, he is often called the "father of the atomic bomb" for his role in the Manhattan Project, the World War II project that developed the first nuclear weapons. The first thermonuclear ("hydrogen") bomb test released the same amount of energy as approximately 10,000,000 tons of TNT.

The first atomic bomb was detonated on July 16, 1945, in the Trinity test in New Mexico; Oppenheimer remarked later that it brought to mind words from the Bhagavad Gita:

"Now, I am become Death, the destroyer of

worlds."

The joint work of the scientists at Los Alamos resulted in the first nuclear explosion near Alamogordo on July 16, 1945, the site of which Oppenheimer named "Trinity".
Oppenheimer later recalled that while witnessing the explosion he thought of a verse from the Hindu holy book, the Bhagavad Gita:
“ If the radiance of a thousand suns were to burst at once into the sky, that would be like the splendor of the mighty one "
Oppenheimer later would be persuaded to quote again in 1965 for a television broadcast:

“ We knew the world would not be the same. A few people laughed, a few people cried. Most people were silent. I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad-Gita; Vishnu is trying to persuade the Prince that he should do his duty, and to impress him, takes on his multi-armed form and says, 'Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.' I suppose we all thought that, one way or another.

G.K. Chesterton, when responding to the question "What's wrong with the world today?" He wrote in the following.

Dear Sirs,

I am.

Sincerely yours,
G. K. Chesterton

Man will eventually destroy man. Charles Darwin said one thing that bothered him most about his theory is that, if nature was read in tooth and claw as he had seen it to be. Then the very ascendancy of the evolutionary product that we now had, had survived by way of violence and by way of aggression and didn't know what was going to stop us from continuing it.

Something to think about...

Just My Thoughts!
[“Kaalo –asmi loka-kshaya-krith pravrudho
Lokaan-samaaharthum-iha pravruthaha”
(I am the destroyer of the worlds. I engage in destroying the worlds ) (Chapter 11:32)

Oppenheimer spoke these words in the television documentary The

Decision to Drop the Bomb (1965). In the literature, the quote normally

appears in the form shatterer of worlds, because this was the form in

which it first appeared in print, in Time magazine on November 8, 1948.

It later appeared in Robert Jungk's Brighter than a Thousand Suns: A

Personal History of the Atomic Scientists (1958), which was based on an

 interview with Oppenheimer.

THAT IS HOW HE TRIED TO ABSOLVE HIMSELF OF THE DELIBERATE INVENTION FULLY KNOWING THE CONSEQUENCES OF COLOSSAL DESTRUCTION, THAT IT CAN HAVE. (interpretations can be dangerous and cause delusions and self-deception.)

Only two nuclear weapons (0n 6 August 1945 & 9 August, 1945) have been used in the course of warfare, both by the United States near the end of World War II. These two bombings resulted in the deaths of approximately 200,000 Japanese people—mostly civilians—from acute injuries sustained from the explosions. The role of the bombings in Japan's surrender, and their ethical status, remain the subject of scholarly and popular debate.
The Federation of American Scientists estimates there are more than 19,000 nuclear warheads in the world as of 2012, with around 4,400 of them kept in "operational" status, ready for use.

EGO AND AWARENESS- DEEPER GRASP OF IT.

Can I be aware
  • of my greed,
  • of my envy,
from moment to moment?
These feelings are expressions of the 'me', of the self, are they not?
The self is still the self at any level you may place it; whether it is the higher self or the lower self, it is still within the field of thought.
And can I be aware of these things as they arise from moment to moment?
Can I discover for myself the activities of my ego when I am eating, talking at table, when I am playing, when I am listening, when I am with a group of people?
Can I be aware
  • of the accumulated resentments,
  • of the desire to impress,
  • to be somebody?
  • Can I discover that I am greedy and be aware of my condemnation of greed? The very word greed is a condemnation, is it not?
To be aware of greed is also to be aware of the desire to be free from it and to see why one wants to be free from it, the whole process.
This is not a very complicated procedure; one can immediately grasp the whole significance of it.
So one begins to understand from moment to moment
  • this constant growth of the 'me',
  • with its self-importance,
  • its self-projected activities,
  • which is basically, fundamentally, the cause of fear.
But you cannot take action to get rid of the cause;
all you can do is to be aware of it.
The moment you want to be free from the ego, that very desire is also part of the ego, so you have a constant battle in the ego over two desirable things, between the part that wants and the part that does not. -
