YOUNG PEOPLE- WHAT IS HAPPENING TO THEM?

8 Nov. 2012

Young workers are 40% more likely to call in sick due to stress than older employees, according to anew UK survey.
Almost seven in ten workers aged between 18 and 24 have called in sick due to stress in the last year, according to a report into workplace stress by a UK based provider of financial products and services.
The report found that the proportion of people who have alled in sick over the last year due to stress gradually increased as people get younger.
Thus for example,

  • in case of age group 18 to 24 years, 67% called in sick
  • and in case of age group 25 to 34 years, this figure fell to 54% and
  • to 47% among age group of 35 to 44 years old.

But in case of over the age of 55, this figure falls to half, the Telegraph reported.
Experts said that

  • young workers may feel more stressed than the older generation because they have more expectation on their shoulders.
  • young people may also be more aware of the tell-tale signs of stress than older people, they believe.
  • biggest stresses were listed as money, work and relationship.
What is happening to younger generation inspite of all the plethora of Management/Development/Personality enhancement/make over gurus and the use of modern technology to spread and impress their mantras and umpteen ways to success?
